Thengai Podi or Coconut Powder is a simple powder made with coconut, chilly and few more ingredients. Hubby is fond of the various combination of podis for idly and rice. And this recipe is from my mother in law.This recipe has fewer chillies to make it baby friendly. You can use this for babies above six months without salt. 

Thengai Podi or Coconut Powder Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Coconut-1/2 cup
  • Urad Dhal-2 tbsp
  • Tamarind-A small ball
  • Salt-To taste
  • Red Chillies-2

How to use thengai-podi-or-coconut-powder?

1.Add a spoon of this to hot steaming rice+ghee and mix like you do with paruppu podi.

2.Use it in any gravy recipe like Ennai kathirikkai

3.Have as an accompaniment with idly or dosa mixed with oil like idly milagai podi

Procedure:

1.Measure all the ingredients and keep them ready.

2.Dry roast red chillies in medium flame.

3.Keep red chillies aside and dry roast urad dhal for few seconds till aroma arises.

4.Set aside the roasted dhal and toss the tamarind.

5.Dry roast the coconut in low flame until it turns crisp.

6.Cool all of them and gently run in pulse mode to make a fine powder.

7.Store in an airtight container.

Notes:

Cool all ingredients completely before grinding.

Adjust chillies according to your wish and taste.

Skip salt for babies less than one year of age.

This can be given to babies above six months

Ensure to have introduced all items before and eliminate allergies.
