This instant rava uttappam recipe was our morning breakfast today. I chose this to finish off the excess sour curd. We totally relished and the best part of it is all took me was 20 minutes. Using rava/sooji in my kitchen is a rare thing and I would definitely call this as one of the best trials I made. You can add more vegetables to this recipe and make it colourful too.

Instant Rava Uttappam Recipe

Makes 5-6


  • Rava-1 cup
  • Poha/Aval Powder-1/4 cup
  • Coconut-3 tbsp(Grated)
  • Onion-1 big(Finely Chopped)
  • Salt-To taste
  • Curd-1/2 cup(Semi Thick)
  • Water-2-3 tbsps
  • Curry Leaves+Coriander Leave-1 tbsp Chopped

Suji Uthappam

  1. Measure and keep the ingredients ready.

  2. In a wide bowl, add curd and give it a quick stir.

Instant Rava Uttappam

  1. Add the rava , salt and poha flour and whisk without lumps.

  2. Close and keep for 5 minutes.

Rava Uthappam

  1. Now add the chopped, onions, curry leaves and coriander leaves.

  2. Add water and mix well to bring to thick pouring consistency. Add a tbsp at a time and try to get a pouring consistency.

  3. Heat a dosa pan and grease with oil.

Sooji Uttappam

  1. Carefully spread the batter with the ladle (Neither like dosa nor like Vegetable Uttapam).

  2. Sprinkle some oil and flip side.

  3. Cook both the sides and serve with chutney.

To get the perfect rava uthappam, ensure that the pan is hot when you pour the batter.

Give it sometime in medium flame to cook before you flip.

You can try it thick like our usual uthappam made with idly/dosa batter.
