What is Butter-Fly pea? It is a creeper flowering plant (Clitoria ternatea) found in most households of Tamil Nadu. In Tamil, it is called the Sangu pushpam. We get two variants namely white & indigo.

What is Blue Tea? The concoction or tea is prepared with the flowers of the butterfly pea and is extremely nutritious because of the antioxidants contents.

The hibiscus sherbet recipe is a precursor behind this recipe. Since I am a no tea-coffee person, these concoctions or juices help a lot with my energy levels. Now let’s get into the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Butterfly Pea Flower- 6-8
  • Water-1 cup

Procedure:

1.Wash the flowers well.

2.Boil the water and pour it into a bowl.

3.Now add the flowers to it.

4.Leave it for 5 minutes.

5.Blue tea is ready.

How to make purple tea?

You can add a drop of lemon juice & the concoction turns purple

Notes:

Don’t boil the flowers with water.

The taste is slightly earthy.

Don’t consume this more than thrice a week.

This is as per the recommendation from my medico brother (Siddha).

You can take it either early in the morning or as an energy boost drink in mid-morning.

I strongly recommend using fresh flowers or dried flowers from your home garden & not from any packets.

Health Benefits:

The colour of the flower is because of the anthocyanins which are present in the flowers. They contribute to the antioxidant properties too.
