Chettinadu Urulai Curry-Chettinadu cuisine is known for its unique flavours and taste. We had bought a bag of small potatoes and I had to make different recipes with it to finish the stock. I made a biriyani, simple gravies, deep fry, shallow fry and tikka. I had this recipe in my mind for a long time and I tried as I had to finish the stock too. The recipe of Chettinad Urulai Curry/Small Potato Gravy is very simple and it can be made in a jiffy. We relished it with rice. You can serve the Chettinad Urulai Curry with dosa/idly and even rotis. Today being teachers day I extend my warm wishes and heartfelt gratitude to all my teachers through my school and college and all my mentors at work and life. This is the noblest profession and I salute all real noble souls. Continue reading “Chettinad Urulai Curry-Small Potato Gravy”
Vellai Curry(வெள்ளை கறி) is a gravy for rice or idly or dosa based on Tirunelveli Cuisine and this recipe is especially from my family. It is a kuzhambhu variety with no dhal/tamarind/tomatoes.I am not a lover of gravy varieties for rice.My preference is always one-pot meals or some unique and different kuzhambhu like vellaikari or ladies finger coconut milk curry or sothi You can prepare in a jiffy and serve as an accompaniment to hot steaming rice.Today’s recipe is made with raw banana and raw mango. You can add drumstick or brinjal or potato or ladies finger instead raw banana.Don’t replace raw mango as it is the secret behind the taste of the recipe.Am I making you curious?Come let’s check out the recipe for Vellai curry. Ladies Finger Curry:
Ufff …One more recipe with coconut milk-Ladies Finger Coconut Milk Curry/Gravy.I have tasted this version of kuzhambhu in several places but I never managed to guess the recipe right. I really wanted to give it a try because it tastes heavenly and it is a versatile side dish. After so many trials I finally landed up with this version and I really like it. This is the only Kuzhambhu I would love to have even in more quantity. Yeah.. I am not a lover of gravies for rice and I take very less quantity of rice when it is kuzhambu and take more when it is a variety rice. I somehow grew like that!!So making side dish for rice is always a head ache to me and I make the usual sambhar/puli kuzhambu stuffs only once a month. But this okra coconut milk gravy is an exception I should say. I love making it again and again and again. My helper at Cochin once tasted this and said their cuisine has a similar traditional dish called “Mappas” in which they use ladies finger, mutton and other meat items. Dear fellow friends from Kerala do try and let me know if it matches mappas?I have never tasted this when I was it Kerala. You can use this as a side dish to idly/ dosa/ appam/ idiyappam/ rice/ roti. Would you not love to make such a dish which is an all-rounder and believe me it is so easy too? Continue reading “LADIES FINGER COCONUT MILK CURRY|VENDAIKKAI THENGAI PAAL KUZHAMBHU”
