Elephant Yam(Senai Kilangu) Fry recipe is the most favorite of the boys at home. Elephant yam/Elephant foot yam/Suran/Sena/Senai Kilangu/Jimikand can be used to make fry, toast, roast, stir fry, cutlet. This Elephant Yam(Senai Kilangu) Fry is a super hit in the family and little one runs to pick elephant yam from the market always. We don’t find it here in our regular shops very easily. So Elephant Yam(Senai Kilangu) Fry is like a treat to him. Elephant Yam(Senai Kilangu) is high in carbohydrates, protein, and calcium. The Vitamin C present acts as an anti-aging agent. it is safe for consumption by diabetic people. Elephant Yam is a low-fat healthy food. The fiber and water content present helps in curing hemorrhoids, dysentery, and piles. It raises the good cholesterol in the blood and reduces hypertension. Elephant yam can regulate hormonal imbalances and help in combating premenstrual syndrome. I never knew that this is such a beneficial and healthy vegetable until I started penning down the recipe of Elephant Yam(Senai Kilangu) Fry.

Ingredients:

  • Elephant Yam-300-350 gms
  • Turmeric powder-A pinch
  • Chilly Powder-1/2 tsp
  • Corn Flour-1 tbsp
  • Rice Flour-1 tbsp
  • Gram Flour-1/2 tbsp
  • Hing-1/4 tsp
  • Oil-To deep fry
  • Salt-To taste

Procedure:

1. Measure all the ingredients and keep them ready.

2. Wash and Peel the skin of yam.

3. Chop them into thin slices and add them to water.

4. In a wide bottomed bowl mix everything except oil and sprinkle some oil to make a slightly thin batter.

5. Add the chopped yam after draining all excess water.

6. Mix well and place it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes(Optional).

7. Heat oil in a pan.

8. Deep fry the yam pieces.

9. Strain excess oil.

10. Elephant Yam(Senai Kilangu) Fry is ready to serve.

P.S:

Coat your palms with some oil to avoid itching while chopping.

Adjust spices as per your taste.

Skip salt for babies below 1 year.

This can be given to babies above 8 months.
