Todays’ recipe is paneer bites or crispy paneer fingers or paneer nuggets. During my last vacation, we had crispy paneer fries at a restaurant and the entire family wanted to try it repeatedly. That’s when I gave a try to the below recipe. It came out really tasty, crispy and yummy. Do try and let me know.

As usual, I have avoided the use of refined oil and refined flour (Both Maida & Corn Flour). I gave it a try with whole wheat flour and used homemade bread crumbs from “Whole Wheat Bread”. Two years back I tried baking whole wheat bread loaf at home and that’s when I found homemade crumbs were super yummy for binding and coating. I shall soon share the recipe of it.

Deep fry foods when taken occasionally and in moderation will not create any harm, provided your lifestyle is healthy otherwise and you don’t suffer from any other clinical conditions which strictly puts you under “Zero Oil Food”

Paneer Nuggets Recipe|Crispy Cottage Cheese fingers:


  • Paneer/Cottage Cheese-200 gms
  • Oil-To fry
  • Bread Crumbs-1/2 cup

You can use poha instead of breadcrumbs

To Marinate:

  • Chilly Powder-1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala-1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seed powder-1/4 tsp
  • Salt-To taste
  • Turmeric Powder-A pinch

For the batter:

  • Whole Wheat Flour-2 tbsp
  • Rice Flour-1/4 tbsp
  • Chilly Powder-3/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder-1/2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder-1/2 tsp
  • Pepper-A pinch
  • Salt-To taste
  • Water-To make a paste
  • Turmeric Powder-A pinch

1. Measure and keep all the ingredients ready.

2. Cut the paneer into strips.

3. Add the items mentioned under “To marinate”, mix and keep in a refrigerator for 10 minutes.

4. In the meantime make the batter ready by mixing the items given under “for the batter”. Make a smooth slightly thick batter.

5. Add marinated paneer cubes to the batter.

6. Mix well and ensure they are completely coated.

7. Now dip them in breadcrumbs by rolling them well.

8. Heat oil in medium flame.

9. Deep fry them and drain excess oil.

10. Serve the paneer nuggets with ketchup


The oil has to be hot and the temperature maintenance is the main key for crispy nuggets.

This stayed crispy for around 3 hours for me.

The breadcrumbs should be really coarse.

Adjust spices as per your taste.

This is excellent finger food for babies below one year(Minus salt)
