This is my moms recipe and I just love the way she does it.This recipe can be followed when you first introduce ladies finger to your baby


  • Ladies finger -1 cup(finely chopped)VENDAIKKAI PACHADI
  • Shallot-1/4 cup(finely chopped)
  • Tomato-1/2 cup(finely chopped)
  • Chilly powder-1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-A pinch
  • Hing-A pinch
  • Jaggery-A small pebble sized
  • Salt-To taste
  • Oil-To cook

To temper:

  • Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Urad dhal-1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves


1.Heat oil in a kadai and temper with mustard seeds.

2.When it splutters add urad dhal and curry leaves.

3.Now add the chopped shallots and saute them till golden brown.

4.Add tomato and saute with shallots.

5.When tomato turns soft ,add ladies finger and fry them until stickyness vanishes.


6.Sprinkle hing,turmeric powder and chilly powder and give a quick stir.

7.Ensure the sticky nature of the ladies finger is perfectly gone and add water to cook ladies finger.

8.Let it cook by closing the pan.


9.When it almost done to 90% add salt,jaggery and give a quick stir.

10.When the ladies finger is completely cooked,switch off the flame and serve.


The ladies finger should become mushy while cooking ,so chop it into very fine pieces.

Add water carefully .
